I have been competing in triathlons since 1998 and have finished 9 Ironman. I started competing in the longer distance while attending school at Long Beach State University, where I was the President and Race Director for the Long Beach State Triathlon Team.
I have competed on the US National "Team USA" since 1999 and have been able to travel all over the world to compete. In 2004, I placed 3rd at the ITU Long Course World Championships in Sater, Sweden. To follow in 2005, I took 2nd place in my age group at Ironman Arizona. The following year while focusing on my running, I took 2nd place in my age group at Mt. Disappointment 50K.
Yet, since 2007, I have been fighting one injury after the other. From two broken ankles, a stress fracture in the neck of my femur, to recently breaking my clavicle mountain biking down Mammoth Mountain. After having to go into an Ironman under trained due to injuries in 2008 and having to pull out of Ironman Wisconsin due to injuries in 2009 and 2010. I have decided to take a year off of racing and to focus on just having fun working out and coaching others without the stress of an upcoming event. For 2011, is a year of personal and professional growth as I establish myself in my new home and community here in San Diego and start my own Accounting, Bookkeeping and Tax Preparation company called ABTP Services.
This year, I signed on to coach five athletes as they get ready for their first Ironman in Tempe, AZ November 20, 2011. We have gotten past the bike purchases and fittings as they have just started training for their first Half Ironman coming up on April 30th at Lake San Antonio, Wildflower Triathlon Festival. For four of the athletes, this will be their first triathlon not to mention a Half Ironman! I have no doubt they will be ready. The group has already become very competitive with each other and all have a great base coming from adventure racing.
I am excited to be apart of their first Ironman experience and to cheer them in at the finish line! To experiencing an Ironman on the other side as a coach is a huge honor!
